Getting started

OpenVFR runs in the browser as a progressive web app (PWA), and there is an Android and iOS app. The web app can be installed from your browser’s “Install” or “Add to Home Screen” menu, after which it also works offline for data you have already loaded.

  • The map shows aviation layers on top of the basemap. See Map and layers.
  • Tap or click features (aerodromes, airspaces, navaids, obstacles) to see details.
  • Build a route by adding waypoints on the map. See Planning a route.
  • Turn on flying mode to follow your GPS position and get alerts. See Flying mode and alerts.

On first start you sign in with a passkey (your device’s fingerprint, face or PIN) or with a one-time code sent to your email. You also give a display name. There is no password and no payment. Your routes, aircraft, places, logs and settings are kept on your device and synced between your devices. See Account and sync.
