Privacy Policy
Last updated: September 2026
OpenVFR is a free, open-source flight planning app run as a non-commercial project. This policy explains what data the app collects, why, and how it's handled.
What we collect
- Location data. Used to show your position on the map, airspace nearby, and terrain/weather relevant to your route. Processed on your device; not stored on our servers unless you explicitly save a flight log.
- Flight plans and routes you create, if you choose to save them to an account.
- Basic diagnostics (crash reports, app version, device type) to fix bugs. No precise location is included in diagnostic data.
What we don't do
We don't sell your data, run ads, or share your location or flight history with third parties for marketing purposes. OpenVFR has no commercial revenue model built on user data. We don't track you across other apps or websites, so no cross-app tracking prompt is shown.
Third-party data sources
The app displays aeronautical, weather, and map data from open providers, including OpenStreetMap, OpenFlightMaps, OpenAIP, OpenSky Network, Protomaps, and aviationweather.gov (NOAA). Using these features may involve requests to those providers, governed by their own terms.
Your choices
You can disable location access at any time via your device settings; core map and airspace features will be limited without it. You can request deletion of any saved account data by contacting us on GitHub.
Children
OpenVFR is not directed at children and is not intended for use by anyone under 13.
Store privacy labels
The data categories declared in Google Play's Data Safety section and Apple's App Privacy (Nutrition Label) for OpenVFR reflect what's described on this page. If this policy changes, those declarations are updated to match.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the app evolves. Material changes will be reflected here with an updated date.
